"Warning--Not Compatible with memory cards over 1G" 2008-12-29
By Joy Carrico (DFW, Texas)
This thing sucks. Ours didn't work at all for most cards and when it did, it only gave us a 1/2 picture. Also, in the instructions, it tells you that the thing is only compatible with cards up to 1G. Who buys memory cards with less than 1G anymore? The Gigs in our hunting camera was a 2G so we couldn't even view the photos on the viewer, if the stupid thing had been working in the first place. Man were we disappointed.

"Should I get a Laser Rangefinder or a GPS system" 2009-09-12
By nivla auhc (USA)
I decided on getting a laser rangefinder (LR) because it's more useful and less of a hassle to me than a GPS unit. The following are a list of reasons for my decision:

1) I can use a LR on the practice range and get exact distances to the flags. This is especially useful for grass practice ranges.

2) I can get a distance on the group ahead to determine if their out of range.

3) I can use it at any course. I don't have to search and download before playing.

4) I can get a distance reading directly to the flag and not just the front, middle, and back of the green.

A GPS unit has it's definate advantages and one of them is when you play a course that has a lot of blind shots. You can still use the LR but it takes a little bit more work than a GPS. Fortunately, I play courses that pretty much have line of site.

I chose this product over other manufacturer and models for the following reasons:

1) I used a Bushnell before and was confident I was getting a great product

2) It has Pinseeker technology which eliminates background distances.

3) It's sturdier on my hands than smaller rangefinders.

4) It uses a long lasting 9v battery. Smaller rangefinders use a 3v battery.

 "Works great" 2009-08-16
By bassman
Great item. I had heard it was tough to steady the laserfinders but that isn't really true. Most times I can hold it plenty steady just like using binoculars. Finds the target fast and has really helped me with knowing how far I am actually hitting the ball. The one caveat is a problem all laserfinders will have and that is if you have a lot of structure behind the flag, ie trees, buildings etc that are close it will try to read those also. If this occurs the laserfinder still does its job but you have to really steady it to hold it on the flag. This Pinseekers works great.. I love it

 "Excellent rangefinder" 2009-07-14
By J. C. Adkins (Pittsburgh, Pa)
I checked out this rangefinder, Bushnell Pro 1600 Tournament Edition Laser Rangefinder with Pinseeker, against the GPS devices, as well as some of the older Nikon laser devices. This one has wonderful ease of use and accuracy. It gives readings which are very repeatable. It seems to be durable.

I found several things that another user of prospective purchaser might consider helpful:

1. The silicone/rubber surface resists all kind of inks, so that it is impossible to inscribe your name on the outside of the device. I even tried to write my name with a small soldering iron, but the cover even resisted this. Eventually I decided to include a label with my name on it in the battery compartment.

2. The pinseeker feature is excellent for picking up the flag. Using the other setting is helpful in picking layup distances.

3. The battery will become exhausted when you need the device most. Keep a fresh 9 v battery in your bag.

4. The door to the battery compartment will fall open if it is not securely and positively closed.

5. My pro tells me that this rangefinder IS now legal for use on most courses and in most amateur tournaments. This is a local exception to Rule 14-3 made by most local and tournament committees. Note that the model of rangefinder (Bushnell Pro 1600 Slope Edition Laser Rangefinder with Pinseeker and others) which computes slope IS NEVER legal, even if that function is not used, and local committees are not empowered to make an exception. It is the golfer's responsibility to check with the local officials regarding the exception, and to point out prior to the round that this model does not indicate slope (gradient).

I am delighted with this purchase.

 "Excellent Product So Far" 2009-07-14
By Simply Being
I purchased this range finder last week and have played with it around the house and on one short round of golf. In order to keep the narrative short, I have listed some of the pros and cons below. Just a quick comment to say that, based on what I have read, you should know that if you play tournaments, the use of your device may not be allowed.

Be sure to look at the review by Lordhamster for additional valuable commnets.

Cons

It's Bulky You most likely will not try to keep this unit on you while playing. While you can clip a GPS unit on your belt without noticing it, not so with this thing.

Possibility of (Lens Damage A nice case comes with it but the only lens cover included was for the eyepiece. The laser lens and view lens had no cover included most likely because these lenses are recessed into the case and would be cumbersome to remove every time you want to use it. Because they were tucked back in from the surface of the case, it might have been thought that damage to these lenses was unlikely. Being an avid photographer, however, I find any naked lenses to be unprotected.

Possibility of Theft Because the all the pockets on my golf bag were full, I had the case strapped to by bag on a pull-cart during one of the few times I walked the course. This arrangement worked great on the course but I felt compelled to take it with me when I went in to the clubhouse before teeing off on the back nine. The case has Bushnell boldly written in on it and it attracts attention. I just thought it might not be there when I came out. If you're playing out of a powered golf cart, you just leave it out of site in one of the cart pockets and it's really not an issue.

Stability/Accuracy Trying to range distances over 200 yards was challenge for me without stabilizing the unit on my cart or some other object. If you're out on a breezy day, the flag is moving and you're moving. The center circle on this unit is small and keeping the flag centered, can be challenging. I ranged one distance at about 493 yards from the tee to a par 5 green (flag). That seemed like a correct yardage based on the yardage listed for this hole, but when I ranged the trees that were 30-40 yards farther, the unit read one yard shorter at 492 yards. The pinseeker indicator indicated that I was reading the pin on the initial reading, but this unit was unable to distinguish any distance between these two targets. I only did this once so I will be conducting further tests.

Distance to the Flag versus Distance to the Center of the Green From distances outside 120 yards, I do not hit the ball accurately enough to worry about the distance to the flag. I would rather know the distance to the center of the green that a GPS unit would show.

Target Obscured If you cannot see the target, you cannot get the range. For those of us that spend more time than we like to admit in the woods or on adjacent fairways, this can be an issue in you're considering a rangefinder rather than a GPS.

Pros

Accuracy I hit no further than 225 yards off the fairway so distances beyond this range are rarely needed. Inside this distance, I was easily able to range the flag, even on breezy days, and the distance seemed right on.

Practice Range This a big one for me. I enjoy hitting practice balls on real-grass practice ranges but never really know how far the yardage markers are as the tees are moved regularly. With this unit, I can know the range to all targets on the range.

No Subscription Necessary Most of the GPS units require some form of subscription to be able to use your unit and, even then, your course might not be "marked."

Utility I like the advantage of being able to range any area of the course. Knowing the distance to sand traps, trees, lakes along with any variety of other hazards is very helpful.

I am sure that I will think of more that I could have written but those might be for another review once I've had a chance get more experience with this unit. As a rangefinder, I am very impressed with this product, but I still think a GPS unit might find its way into my bag unless my game improves a lot in the near future.

And as a last note on Amazon.com, I have had nothing but good luck with this vendor. I have purchased, in addition to this unit, a Samsung 52 inch LCD TV and a "Monster" Power Center all without incident and with excellent service. Thank you Amazon.

"Works great, much better than GPS" 2009-06-25
By lordhamster (Cleveland, Ohio)
Just tested this rangefinder for the first time on the course yesterday, and already it has helped me to shave a few strokes off my game.

I played a local course and took the rangefinder and my golflogix gps. The Golflogix told me I was 120 yards out, the Bushnell said 103. I hit my pitching wedge (normally goes 100) and landed a few yards from the pin.

So long as your approach shot distances are fairly consistent, you'll benefit from not having to guess if the flag is front back or middle.

This particular unit is a little bulkier than some other rangefinders, but I find it very easy to hold onto. Also, the excellent pouch fits easily onto my golf bag, so taking it in and out to use is easy. I was able to easily grab pins under 200 yards instantly. Pins further out take a bit longer. Yesterday I was able to get a pin 353 yards out. An interesting experiment, but well beyond my golfing range.

I decided on this unit over a Leupold for 3 reasons.

1. The Bushnell comes with a 2 year vs 1 year warranty. These things aren't cheap so that is important.

2. The Bushnell is really waterproof, not simply "weather resistant". I could dunk this baby into a lake (should it happen to be be attached to my golf bag when I toss it in the lake).

3. Battery: I hate proprietary or hard to find batteries. The Bushnell uses a standard 9V, easy to find and replace.

 "Good value" 2009-05-21
By Brian A
I wanted a decent cheap pair of binoculars to keep around the house and these fill the roll very well. The 32mm objective lense gives them an advantage over the more popular 25mm by letting in more light for a clearer picture without being much bigger. Although the 10x zoom is probably more practical for most people and the 16x would just be useless. Markus seems to have been expecting quite a deal from his and was apparently disappointed. If your picky then go get one of the ones that cost over $100. If you want something that's "good enough" and easy to carry around, then I'd recommend this.

"hard to believe people continue to buy these" 2006-08-08
By Markus Twainus
"Dad, why is the image in these binoculars so dim and shaky?" "Because it's got too much magnification for a hand-held binocular."

"Why is this thing so hard to focus?" "Too high magnification and a lot of slack in the focus mechanism."

"Dad, why is it so hard to follow birds in flight? "It has a narrow true field of view."

"Why is it so hard to postion my eyes so that I can see the whole image in both eyes?" "Small exit pupils, very short eye relief, and the hinges don't have much resistance to hold the proper interpupillary distance."

The only virtues of these binoculars are their compact size, light weight, and reasonably wide apparent field of view (AFOV). Those that gave these binocs a good review, try a similarly-priced pair of lower-magnification binocs, notice the sharper and steadier views, easier focusing, and see if you go back to these. If you need a very inexpensive, very compact binocular that is at least decent/useable, try out the 8x21s of similar design under various brand names; they are better in just about every practical respect, and cost less.

I got a pair of these for my wife for Mother's Day. I never used them, so I can't give any performance particulars, but she loved them, although she also lost them. We looked around locally for a replacement pair, but found nothing she was happy with. Then I saw a review request waiting for me on this product at Amazon and realized this is where I bought them. My wife will be very happy to have another pair of this model.

"Fantastic optic at an unbeatable price." 2009-05-29
By Shane L. Huffman (Baltimore)
This optic is a fantastic value. It is a good $150 cheaper here than at most other online retailers. The glass is insanely clear and the build quality is great (typical of Japanese optics).

Not mounted yet but initial impression is its very nice glass for the money.

The glass is extremely bright and clear. I would put it a notch above my Nikon Monarch 6.5-20. In dusk, the scope actually makes the image brighter than my naked eye shows.

It is built very nicely and is somewhat heavy. Today was cloudy but the illuminated dot was bright and easy to pick up on the "1" setting. With 9 additional brightness settings, I could easily see the dot being daytime visible.

The German #4 reticle seems to allow for quick acquisition. The 1.25x allows for two eyes open comfortably (for me) past about 15 yards or so. There was no information included on how to "use" the reticle. Perhaps there is no range estimation with the #4 reticle?

One thing I was disappointed with were the turrets. It has hunter style turrets. While this isnt necessarily a bad thing, my Monarch has spoiled me with target turrets. On a scope like this, however, I will probably zero it and not mess with the turrets much from there (99% of my shots will be within 200 yards and mostly within 100). That said, the turret adjustments are extremely crisp with a nice audible click.

Obviously I have not mounted it to check zero or do the box test. It will probably be a few weeks before that happens but initial impressions are extremely positive.

If you are on the fence, get this optic. You wont find a better price on it.

To the point,

I use 9 camera's , this is the newest one. I put it out, it took 14 pictures, one i will say was the common small buck i have in other pics. The rest of the pics were anywere from slightly to very delayed. The next time i put it out, none. It rained and now there is water behind the plastic... somehow. I know i set it up right, just a very bad product. And the buttons were confusing. don't buy , waste of money, sorry if you did, your in my shoes now.

"Not sure why others had a problem with this camera" 2009-09-25
By Dave Jones (Cross Plains, TX USA)
This was my first review. I have an updated review on the same camera.

I'm guessing there must have been some changes in the camera's software or something because, as of Sept 25th, 2009, I have had ZERO issues. I bought the camera at a local Wal-Mart and have had the camera installed for 3 days now. This morning, I retrieved my SD card and changed it out with a blank one. I had 91 photos on it and the infrared pics were excellent on the 'lo' resolution setting and the daytime photos were excellent as well.

Out of 91 photos only one was washed out looking and only one was dark. The other 89 were perfect and of wildlife. Blowing limbs are within range yet there were no accidental triggers that I could see.

I had excellent photography of rabbits, deer and raccoon.

According to the literature provided, you are suppose to use a 1 GB card (or less) with this camera and it must be an 'SD' type card only. I only have 2 GB SD cards so tried it and it worked just fine. I can imagine that the wrong size or type card can cause problems or they wouldn't have put it in the literature.

I am currently testing the battery life now to see how long they last. It takes 4 'D' cell batteries and has a solar charger option. If the battery life is bad, I will come back and amend this rating. I'm not giving it 5 star's yet because I have yet to test the 'HI' resolution and the video capability.

Right out of the box, it works and works well. Shop around for pricing of this unit is my advice as it varies widely.

 "completely worthless" 2009-07-19

This trail camera had such a delay in taking pictures that whatever walked by was out of the frame by the time it took the shot. And the customer service department is just terrible. Stay away!

 "NOT worth the money" 2008-12-12
By theblackyak (theblackyak)
This camera is a nonfunctional, useless waste of money. When I first put it in the woods, I returned with 65 pictures of a birch tree enhanced with night vision. I thought perhaps I had incorrectly placed the camera, so I tried again with the same results. The camera only took pictures on one instance each time I put it in the woods, and I ended up with over fifty photos of nothing each time. Getting sick of hiking into the woods to experiment with this camera, I set it up in my house, and it went off once in all the times we walked, ran, and jumped around in front of it...once...in four days...and that was when I was picking it up to see if it had taken any pictures. Buy a Cuddeback.

 "Poor quality / defective" 2008-10-13
By W. Peach

I purchased one of these in July 2008. The camera was constantly "sticking" in its modes, regardless of what the time settings were set on. I'd occasionally get bleached-out infrared photos during the day and black photos during the night hours when it should have been infrared (time settings were double and triple-checked). When I was able to get a photo, it seemed to be rather poor quality. I've had other cameras that were only 3.0 megapixel that had much better quality pics.

I sent the camera in for repairs and they sent me a new camera 5 weeks later that has the same problems. I'm sending it back with a request for a refund.

Like their roof prism relatives, the porro prism line-up provides great durability and performance in a "traditional" porro prism design. Compact to full-sized, the contemporary styling houses fully coated optics. Suffice to say, images are crisp, clear and bright - even in low light. Affordable for any and all interested in magnifying life to its fullest.

 "Dissapointing" 2007-07-24
By David A. Evans (florida)
HArd to tell if the product is a advertized, However I am dissapointed in the clarity of images and the lack of ability to focus. The binoculars do`not seem to adjust to a small face for children or females. making it difficult to look directly through the lenses. Zoom levels and brightness of images are acceptable.

"Pretty good for what I use it for" 2003-10-09
By (Ontario, Canada)
I got this binocular because of a lack of selection at any local stores here, even though I can't find reviews for it hoping they would turn out good.

It turned out nice, and works good for what I use it for (watching animals from far off, zooming in on the golfers at a near by course, some minor astonomy...). Being a zoom binocular they probably aren't as sharp as set magnification ones, but that doesn't matter to me for what I use it for.

It seems to be a good all around binocualar: easy to get it focused, good range, not too heavy, works decent enough in low light, plus it comes with a really nice leather carry bag.

Only downside I found is that the zoom switch jammed on the 1st one I got, and I had to return it for a new one, and the zoom on the new one is a little shoddily made aswell.

"Great Binocs for This Price" 2007-12-10
By M. Yawney
I've been using these almost every day (birding) for about a year now and I love them. I'm not ready to lay down several hundred dollars for some nicer ones so I chose these. They're waterproof, fog-resistant, multi-coated, and fairly wide field for this magnification. I couldn't be more pleased with the optics. I looked at different binocs for a few days on the interenet before coming up with these. I feel like they are the best quality product for this price range.

The Product is very good ,however what is mentioned as the delivery cost is just the US portion .if you buy from other countries be careful since for Canada I had to pay 37 $CAD more for delivery in Canada.

 "Great binoculars for boaters" 2008-12-20
By DLK (Florida)
Although Amazon does not say which model these are, they are the OS36 with the built in lighted compass and rangefinder. It is very easy to get a compass bearing while looking through the binoculars and the 50mm field of view is especially useful at night. They are auto focus which do not require manual focusing. Comparable binoculars are at least double the price elsewhere.
